Positive Education recognizes that student wellbeing is the foundation upon which academic engagement and excellence rests.
Using data-driven methods backed by the science of positive psychology, the goal of positive education is to increase wellbeing and cultivate flourishing within the entire school community.
Strengths-based, Positive Education turns toward the good. Rooted in Positive Psychology, PosEd engages the whole community - students, teachers, administrators, and leadership - to embrace topics such as wellbeing, life satisfaction, optimism, creativity, flow, gratitude, and ways that we can all make positive contributions to the world.
As Yeats stated, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
Passive students can be led again and again to the fountain of learning (by teachers who are more and more drained), but they can't be forced to fill up their pails.
With disengaged students, what learning they do take in is superficial, fueled only by the need to get a certain grade, check a certain box, and be done with schooling.
This is truly an opportunity lost.
One of the greatest resources we have in the world is the creativity, passion, and fresh perspective of our young people. This belief is what fuels our belief and commitment to Positive Education.
By helping our young people see themselves as stewards of their educational journey, connected to the ways that they can make authentic contributions to their communities, this has the potential to change the world.
